Founded in 1993, Legal Insight, Inc. has provided the medical community with legal information in the form of programs designed to enhance top-notch patient care and to reduce the risk of avoidable lawsuits.

Legal Insight's Mission Statement is to provide lay-person friendly legal education to healthcare professionals, lawyers, business, industry, and the public. After thorough research and conceptual analysis, Melanie D. Bragg distills complex legal principles to their simplest meaning and explains them to viewers in easy-to-understand language. Our goal is for the viewer to learn to navigate their way through the murky waters of our legal system.

Melanie D. Bragg obtained her Bachelors of Science from the University of Texas at Austin with Honors in 1978 and her Juris Doctorate at the University of Houston Law Center in 1982. After serving a year as a Briefing Attorney for the 14th Court of Appeals in Houston, Texas, Melanie started her own law practice. She worked in the civil, criminal, probate and family courts. Melanie was appointed by the judges to represent incapacitated elderly or mentally ill people and minor children. From 1983 to 1993, Melanie served as guardian of indigent wards' estates. In the course of handling their day-to-day affairs, she spent a lot of time in hospitals and nursing homes, where it was often necessary to explain complex legal principles to doctors, nurses, and family members. Melanie was also a frequent public speaker. When she received consistent positive feedback from co-workers, clients, and audiences, she decided to expand her ability to communicate legal principles to the public and help more people in need.

As luck would have it, Melanie knew the late Don Macon, Executive Producer at what was then University of Texas-Television (UT-TV) and is now a part of M.D. Anderson. He reviewed her business plan and some footage from her bar association activities and asked her to develop ten medical legal education programs to air on the hospital system's closed-circuit network. The programs were a local success and two of them were applicable to national audiences: Charting Medical Records: Do's & Don'ts (in its second edition) and Primary Medical Records (now HIPAA.) From 1994 to the present they have been distributed worldwide through national distributors.

Legal Insight is expanding its product base to include business/public and lawyer legal programs. The legal information provided is not meant to take the place of a lawyer's advice, but will enhance the audience's understanding of legal concepts. Legal Insight is proud to be able to provide the viewer with a legal road map on current topics of interest. And remember, "A little legal insight goes a long way!"
