BIO
Founded in 1993, Legal Insight® has provided the medical community with legal information in the form of programs designed to enhance top-notch patient care and to reduce lawsuits. Over the years she has researched, written and performed a variety of programs that have been distributed nationwide. Melanie wrote HIPAA for the General Practitioner, an American Bar Association publication. Legal Insight® has provided audiences a variety of programming on legal topics, as well as leadership, marketing and ethics, and has educated the general public about much needed probate documents and medical treatment directives.
Melanie Bragg obtained her Bachelors of Science from the University of Texas at Austin with Honors in 1978 and her Juris Doctorate at the University of Houston Law Center in 1982. After serving a year as a Briefing Attorney for the 14th Court of Appeals in Houston, Texas, Melanie started her own law practice. She worked in the civil, criminal, probate and family courts. Melanie was appointed by the judges to represent incapacitated elderly or mentally ill people and minor children.
From 1983 to 1993, Melanie served as guardian of indigent wards’ estates. In the course of handling their day-to-day affairs, she spent a lot of time in hospitals and nursing homes, where it was often necessary to explain complex legal principles to doctors, nurses, and family members. Melanie was also a frequent public speaker. The idea to form Legal Insight®️ was born and she decided to expand her ability to communicate legal principles and help more people in need.
Since then Melanie used her legal background as the backdrop for Crosstown Park, an Alex Stockton Legal Thriller, published by Koehler Books. Social justice and a spiritual twist accompany a fast-paced courtroom drama. Melanie writes two bi-monthly columns for the American Bar Association’s Solo, Small Firm & General Practice Division’s online newsletter, The eREPORT. One is a leadership article and the newest one is on mindfulness.
